Pope Francis visit to Kenya

Pope Francis’s first African tour begins on Wednesday (25 – 27 November 2015) when he’ll arrive in Kenya, then go on to Uganda, and it is hoped will be able to visit the Central African Republic, where a civil war still rages.

During the five-day trip the Pope Francis is expected to deliver public masses, meet religious and political leaders and promote a message of reconciliation and unity.

The Pope’s themes during his visit will include, but are not limited to, strengthening the family unit, peace and stability, inter-religious, and inter-ethnic tolerance and inclusivity. He plans to meet with President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is a Catholic, visit one of Nairobi’s slum areas Kangemi, where an estimated 660,000 people live, and where CAFOD’s partner Trocaire works.

It is expected that Pope Francis will celebrate Mass, where more than one million of Kenya’s Catholic faithful are expected to attend.
