World's Widest Bridge

The new Port Mann Bridge (2012) seen here, and built parallel to the old bridge (that will be torn down after the new one is completed in December). The new bridge is the world's widest eclipsing Sydney's Harbour Bridge. The bridge is partially opened (in September) with 3 lanes eastbound, and will be finished by December. The bridge is part of a massive highway improvement project east of Vancouver along the busiest stretch of the Trans Canada Highway in Western Canada. Highway 1 opened in the early 1960s and is the main east west link from the city.

Although technically part of the Trans Canada Highway, the provincial government will charge a toll to drive across the bridge.
