Berry College Old Mill

    Old Mill
    Berry College
    Rome, GA

This beautiful old 1930 Grist Mill is located on the property of Berry College and is well worth the trip to see. In 1977 the wheel was completely rebuilt as a cooperative project involving Berry students, staff, alumni, and friends.

I have posted an information sign in the first comment which gives the background on the mill.

For many years, the mill was operated by Mr. Green Berry Goodson, a miller who ground Berry-grown corn into meal and grits.

Could that reflection get any clearer and all of that green--I
long to be out of this desert and back somewhere with scenes

Terrific shot, Jerry! I always love seeing your outstanding photos of grist mills. The relation between the water wheel and the building is especially interesting here, and I love the reflection in the water, too. Wonderful work!

Oh my this is a Jerry Jaynes to beat all Jerry Jaynes's - if that's even possible. How beautiful this tranquil large wheel is and its incredible reflection. The beautiful trees. Just very wow from my side

Beautiful. I have been to Berry College many times over the years and to the Mill, before and after it was renovated. My Grandfather, Greenberry Goodson, was the Miller at Berry School (now Berry College) and operated this wheel to grind mill to be used by the school to feed the students in the 1930's. He passed away in 1940.
