Fighting Grackles

I usually don't repost my photos but I put these shots on around 2.30 this morning just before getting into the car for a 13 hour ride home from Phoenix so didn't have time to explain the background to the scene.

Usually, these birds seemed to flee from my lens whenever it was aimed at their direction. However, yesterday morning these two males wound up in a territorial fight and didn't care who was taking pictures or how close. They meant business. Beaks intertwined, they wound up in the water where one bird tried to drown the other. Didn't work, thankfully. I don't know if I could have stood by had they gotten around to actually kill one or the other. Meanwhile, four females were calmly standing by watching. Wondering who their next protector would be. Eventually, one of these males flew off.

Ragstatic, Red~Star, and 5 other people added this photo to their favorites.

I bet that was intense to watch. Did they fly out of the water or swim to the edge??

WOW...amazing action shots of the huge fight. Excellent capture of their movement...you couldn't have gotten them any sharper. Excellent job on the exposure...which can be tricky with black.

I don't like to see birds or wildlife feud like this. I'm glad neither were hurt.

Wow, what cool shots especially the one in the water. The clarity is such that I feel like I'm there with you. And they look like they mean business for sure.
