We are strange creatures, humans, that can find beauty even in destruction.
Taken from the roof of my parents' house on 07/02.
We evacuated my parents' house yesterday evening, though the area they live in was not under an evacuation warning. We gathered important things and brought them to my Dad's office at UCSB, and then everyone spent the night at our little apartment near the mission. This morning seemed to bring much better news, and though the stats are still bad (over 5000 acres burned and ~10% containment) there have been no structures burned, the smoke has let up considerably and my parents felt safe to return home. Also the fire personnel presence has been nearly doubled since yesterday afternoon, and the winds have died down considerably.
Right now, things look pretty good, but of course we're monitoring the situation very closely.
Thanks, everyone, for your concern and comments.
