fictional BuNiKa (old town)

this part of the city called "ประตูผี" which means Gate of the Dead in Thai.

In early years of Bangkok, this road / area marked the city limit where city wall was at the

end of this road. There were many gates and defensive forts but only one gate allowed

the dead to pass through - that means all dead bodies within the city wall would have to be carried out of the city through Gate of the Dead -

by their belief,

all gates had some kind of gods / spiritual protection that would not allow any evil and / or spirit of the dead to pass through in / out the city gates - only Gate of the Dead that had no such protection - and therefore the only way to bring the dead out of the city.

However, this practice lasted until.. around 1860s when city of Bangkok expanded beyond its wall. Gate of the Dead itself disappeared with time.

Also around late 1930s - 1940s,

A navy office / submarines was located in this area.
