Yuba River Middle Fork

When I first saw this spot along the Yuba River I was reminded of Norman Maclean's great novelette, "A River Runs Through It." I've read this perfect little vignette many times and it never ceases to fill me with awe and wonder. The novel is so beautifully written and I somehow always come back to Maclean's heartfelt words at the end . I share them here:

"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of those rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.

I am haunted by waters."

Beautifully written and easy to understand when confronted by the spirit of a clear flowing mountain river on a calm and quiet morning.
