pool re-do...finding a balance.
The old swimming pool (where the kids once Marco-Polo'ed through the summer) is now going through a metamorphosis, becoming a fish pond. We talk alot about "ecosystem" and "balance" and debate "aeration", 'bioload", and think in terms of a circle. Every action we take has effects--intended and unforeseen.
The little "feeder" goldfish I got for 25 cents a piece are getting big. This pool is a lot bigger than the aquarium-living they once knew. Overhead, a huge maple tree sheds leaves the size of pancakes onto the surface. I try to skim them away, but these fish seem to find them interesting, a goldfish playground. I don't know how thoughtful goldfish might be, but I know, I have fun, just watching their play. Once I start skimming, they'll get scared and swim away and hide. So...I stow the net away for another day. A few more leaves on the bottom is the price I'll pay for watching a goldfish ballet today.
