Thomas Ferens Academy is a new school which is being built on what used to be Princess Elizabeth Playing Fields, just off Beverley Road.

This new site will have capacity for 1,250 students. Building started in March 2011 and the Academy will open in September 2012. It is being built by the Esteem Consortium, was designed by _Space and will cost £25.5 million.

The new building forms part of the overall Northern Area Improvement Plan which, in addition to the establishment of a new Academy, will see Endike Primary School rebuilt, improvements to community and sports facilities and the linking of green space in the area. Thomas Ferens Academy is sponsored by the University of Hull, with Hull City Council, Wyke Sixth Form College and Wilberforce Sixth Form College as co-sponsors.
