Anarchy Citra Star

A glass of Citra Star from Anarchy Brew Co in Morpeth, England, at The Rake in London.

Anarchy Citra Star is a 4.1% abv hoppy blond ale, as its name implies it was hopped with Citra hops and has a bitterness of 36 IBU (which is pretty hoppy for a blond!). It poured a hazy golden yellow with a white head. It sported a lovely hop aroma with note of tropical fruits. Mouthfeel was light with a soft creamy carbonation. Flavor followed up the aroma with a nice tropical fruit character, plenty of mango and grapefruit, balanced by a good bitterness. It had a long bitter aftertaste with some lingering fruit notes. A refreshing and delicious ale!

Anarchy is a new craft brewery from Northumberland in the far north of England, proving that things are "brewing" outside London too. Back in January 2012 a group of friends in the town of Morpeth, just north of Newcastle, turned their lifelong hobby into business by launching a small 10 barrel brewery named Anarchy Brew Co. A year later they've already turned out a number of interesting beers, I really like their Crime Scene amber ale too.
