Abbaye Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy

Outside the gates of Abbaye Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy in Rochefort in the province of Namur in Wallonia, Belgium.

The Trappist Abbey of Rochefort or Abbaye Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy belongs to the Cistercians of Strict Observance, which traces its roots back to 1230 when Gilles de Walcourt, the count of Rochefort, founded a monastery for Cistercian nuns called Secours de Notre-Dame. Around 1595, the first brewery was founded within the abbey.
