emerging from broken glass

Finally a new pic! My mom has been harping on me for the last week for not posting anything, so hey mom, here you go!

Sister image to this one: www.flickr.com/photos/brookeshaden/5442000223

This was created quite publicly with several people jogging past or riding in cars. The water was too shallow for me to bend over and get water in the tank like I had anticipated, so I had trusty help throwing water into the tank from 5 feet away courtesy of my polka dot rain boot that is, in fact, quite water resistant.

Just when I thought I was the only one doing something weird in the park that day, I saw another photog taking the picture of a man dressed in a pirate-like costume. Seeing as we were both doing something odd I stopped to make a new friend but was immediately dismissed in an incredibly rude way by said girl...a bit disheartening! Too bad too, I wanted to see the final outcome of her pic.

This is also my 300th upload to flickr..oh how time flies!

And lastly, this is my first official picture taken with my new camera/lens :)

I am utterly in love with all of your work!
I am an art student studying in Auckland NZ, I'm a sculpture major and was never much a fan of photography until I found your website.
I am jealous of your amazing photographic skills and beautiful painterly works. The colours and light that you use are brilliant, dark, moody, bodily and soft.
Your surrealist style of creating alternate worlds is so inspiring! I love your self portraits, I often use my own body in my practice, I find that one’s own body is fascinating to explore both visually and conceptually.
I also admire the great detail and clarity that all your work has, it is almost lickable!
I often struggle with my own work looking too messy-I find it's often hard to be a tidy sculpture. My greatest challenge in my work own work is always wanting to create something creepy or slightly disturbing and disgusting while also giving it enough beauty for someone to think about it.
Good luck with all your future work, and thank you for putting your practice out there, you are an amazing artist.

Have you ever though about directing horror movies? I think you'd be fantastic at that.

-Always been a fan of your work.

Great to see you pushing the bounderies and as far as the 5d2 goes you made an excellent choice on camera and lens. Everyone might be buying it but you will make it work. best of luck with it.

Great vignette behind the photo Brooke. Dont let that bad experience dissuade you in the future from reaching out to make contact with other creatives. The most amazing creative people I have ever known were always curious and interested in forming connections with other like minded people. Obviously she was paranoid or insecure about herself and her work, You on the other hand showed an ability to keep your mind and heart open.
