Mughal khanjar

This early seventeenth-century Mughal khanjar (dagger) has a rock crystal hilt inlaid with rubies, and a later sheath with gold mounts. The dagger was first noted in the North Corridor Inventory of Windsor Castle c.1870 as a ‘Nepalese’ dagger and later noted in the collection of King Edward VII in the early 20th century. The decoration of the hilt is similar to that on a rock crystal cup of a similar date in the Al-Sabah Collection in Kuwait.
