Beating The Lip

The fog has returned much to my displeasure, but I managed to see a jump in the size of the surf so I hiked down to the beach with my new 400mm lens to practice my surf shots and work out the best way to use it. It was small but fun looking and the crowd was growing, so i focused on the better surfers and managed to get some really nice action shots. The auto focus on this lens is amazing. I set the camera up for large aperture and fast shutter speed and the soft focus at the top and bottom blend out any distracting details while perfectly freezing the wave and rider. If I can get a good lighting day and some bigger surf, the results will be so good. I am excited for the fall season to start although I will need to invest in a waterproof cover for the camera and lens as they are not water proof at all. More to follow.
