Split Second

After a return home from warm Mexico, I was in a state of denial. I was cold and missing the warm nights so it took a few weeks to reaclimate to my chilly spring conditions here in California. To make matters worse it began to rain for real and it had been very dry previously. So I waited until the clouds were interesting and the rain not to bad before I went back to taking any photos. I also obtained a better tripod in the meantime and have discovered what a huge difference it can make in the ease of shooting. The split second transition from landscape to portrait is so nice. The stable smooth pan as I follow a surfer down the wave, and the comfort of the soft grips in the morning when the cold metal can be a bummer.

So to try the the tripod out and get back into shooting I spent some days out in the field with the wave riders and saw very little change in the pictures I took but the comfort as I took them was noticeable. I captured some spring swells as they slammed into the west coast the last few weeks. The surf has been visable due to the fog not forming and the winds have pushed up the swell to decent levels.

More to follow when I get my lens situation sorted out. I am seriously looking into a bigger 400 prime to get the auto focus back as I am losing lots of good shots to my manual focus 70-210 and 2x extender being the only way to reach the surfers in the lineup.
