California Coastal Paradise v1

For this picture I chose a perfect sunset in Davenport California and a coastal view. I started by hiking down to the coast at Hole In The Wall beach and selecting a view on the rocks facing away from the sun slightly. I used a small aperture and a low iso so my shutter speed would longer and give me some blur on the water.

I was very pleased with the results but for the sky behind the cliffs. They were white and colorless next to the golden cliffs. I went back and created a good version of each shot and then I selected some sky from another picture that matched the mood of the shot I started with. It was then that I paired the two images together in Photoshop after some selection issues and trial and error.

What I was left with was a great combo of the land and sky giving me the compilation above. I settled on three images that had the most pleasing water features and then I re-sized for use on the web. For all the purists out there who would have used a filter or something, I say whatever !

The shot looks way better and is very seamless in the sky to land areas. This is not my usual way of making images but it worked the best for the shot in the final draft.
