"Another unusual insect has migrated into Central Illinois. It's an odd-looking insect that could well serve as the prototype for a creature appearing in a science fiction movie. It's the wheel bug, Arilus cristatus, sometimes also known as the devil's riding horse. Several of these insects have been brought to the Extension office during recent weeks for identification. Why wheel bugs have moved into our area is not fully understood at present, but their migration may be attributed to climatic changes or abundant food sources.
