Surfer and Board

    Newer Older

Photo taken on Konica Minolta VS100-S film with a 1973 Minolta SRT-Super equipped with a 50mm f/1.4 lens.

I couldn't help myself from taking this shot when I saw this guy sitting there next to this board and staring out at the waves.

Classic shot!! He is reading the waves or trying to wake up. Brings back memories of my surfing days.

I love the slight red tints that are consistent through the image - red hair, red lined board, seaweed, etc. Nice!

I really like how the whole photo is washed of color but the guy and the board are still quite defined. Did you deit this much?

I didn't do much other than fix up some spots and fuzz from the scanning process. This is pretty much a straight film scan.

I really like this shot. You framed it nicely and the colors give it a classic look. Good work.

Could have been taken in 1975 :) Great composition, emotion and story telling in this deceptively simple photo.

Seen next to a fellow photo of the group "Learning Photography with Neil Creek". (?)

I'd have to agree with everything already said, though I'd like to add perfect DoF choice. Just enough to be suggestive, but wide enough to keep the main interest initially in the foreground.

Seen on your photo stream. (?)

My guess is that he's trying to wake up -- he still had jeans on.

I hadn't really noticed the red seaweed in there -- but it sure goes well with the other aspects of the photo!

Thanks! It helps that I shot it with a classic camera too!

Thanks man! And it very well could've been taken in the 70's -- the camera would have been just a few years old back then!

Thanks -- I believe I shot this around f/4 or f/5.6 with the shutter speed maxed out at 1/1000 seconds. Even though it was cloudy and I was using 100 speed film, it was still pretty bright out.
