"Welcome to Denver" - with love, Bluecifer

    Newer Older

The divisive Blue Mustang sculpture (aka Bluecifer) at Denver International Airport. The controversial art was responsible for its creator's death and helps fuel the many conspiracy theories about the airport.

Luis Jiménez, the sculptor, was killed when a large section of this Blue Mustang fell on him and severed an artery in his leg. I parked illegally for about five minutes so I could take this photo. We both suffer and sacrifice for our art.

Links to a couple of articles about the sculpture from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Denver Post and Westword.

Normally soft spoken local realtor, Rachel Hultin, was thrust into the national spotlight for the popular Facebook campaign she started aimed at getting the horse moved or removed. She is mentioned in many of those articles.

[update May 6] In a conciliatory gesture and show of good sportsmanship, Rachel has been using this photo as her Facebook profile picture for the the last month.

Nothing says "Welcome to Denver" or "have a nice flight" like this thing does!

Thanks for stopping to take this shot. It would have been worth getting a ticket.
