HaloWall

A year ago I saw a rainbow on the ground. It appeared after some workers had finished sandblasting there.

I researched this phenomenon and found out it was a "glass bead bow", a special kind of rainbow formed by glass microspheres.

I decided this could form the basis of an art project for Burning Man 2009. The Black Rock desert has intense sun and it would be interesting to use it.

Few of the pictures show it but I collaborated with Casey Hutchinson (nnooiissee) throughout to make this happen. Especially at the design, construction, and oh-my-god-these-things-are-heavy phases.

Our greatest nemesis on the playa was dust, which interfered with the rainbow effect and necessitated frequent cleanings. But those who saw it at the right times were delighted.

Update: we took this to SF Decompression, the post-Burning-Man event, in a slightly different form, with better results. Cubes and Eden joined the team for the SF Decompression run.
