Hamer Grandpa, Ethiopia...

This man is sitting on a wooden pillow or headrest. These are common house hold items amongst Ethiopian various tribes. The main benefit of these (most of the times) beautifully handcarved headrests is that it enables people to sleep without interfering with their hairstyle. Men carry around these pillows everywhere because you can use it as a chair also (as you can see here). Furthermore, an Ethiopian tribal headrest come in several forms and design and reflects each tribe’s cultural identity.
