Long Logs Trail, Petrified Forest National Park
I had some time to experiment with different compositions and different equipment in Petrified Forest National Park. The conditions were less than ideal since you can only be there during well-lit hours and when I visited there were no clouds. Ultimately, I decided on two things: (1) I preferred logs that looked like this where there is a clear bark pattern on the outside so that it's clear this is petrified wood and (2) that a circular polarizer does amazing things for to bring out the color when there is a lot of bring sunlight. If I ever make it back (and I'm in no rush), I'll bring my macro lens.
