Neighborhood Coalitions Project_2016
In 2016, with funding from New York Community Trust, the Brooklyn Queens Land Trust (BQLT) implemented the Neighborhood Coalitions Project as a way to encourage healthy eating and build community within and across four BQLT-owned community gardens located in close proximity of one another in Crown Heights/Bed-Stuy. Partnering with local organizations and artists, BQLT held a series of of nine community events promoting culture and community development, resilient urban agriculture, and healthy eating and cooking. Events served as a platform for discussing sustainable practices for growing produce and how to utilize vegetables as part of a healthy diet, and integrated performances, art making, exercise instruction, and the serving of healthy food options.
