the joys of new Mac ownership

My mom gave my stepdad a new iMac for Christmas. Being the resident Mac guru I volunteered to set it up for them. After 9 hours of DSL software updates and file copying I think I finally got his iTunes to work properly. Why doesn't Apple sell these things with the latest system software pre-installed? Shouldn't the Apple Store do this kind of stuff for you? This is NOT how we planned to spend our Christmas :-(

Ugh. As an I.T. manager in real life, I feel your pain.

it blows me away that Vista updates in 90 minutes, and OSX takes almost twice as long (or longer). apple's taking notes, it seems. :/

So, after spending the day updating my step dad's new iMac it turned out his iTunes library got all f***ed up during the migration process. My step dad basically only uses his computer for iTunes. I ended up spending most of the day Saturday re-linking 1,500+ songs (out of a 12,000 song + library) that iTunes "couldn't find". Somehow Mail is still broken....
