UICB final project
These are photos of my final project for my Center for the Book certificate. I started by modernizing recipes from Gervase Markham, and wrote about the process on a blog (http://modernizingmarkham.wordpress.com). I then looked at handwriting samples of Markham's contemporaries, and adapted them into my own version of secretary hand (which is very similar to gothic cursive.) Next, I made a limp vellum pamphlet to hold the calligraphed recipes, and wrote out a poster of the ductus for secretary hand so others could see how I create the letterforms.
For calligraphers and enthusiasts, I encourage you to use the ductus to your heart's content, and I encourage anyone to contact me with questions!
