Western Grebe and ? Grebe - New York

Western Grebe (right) and a Western/ Clark's-type grebe (left); the paler bird does show a less-black face pattern, slightly brighter bill, and paler gray flanks; however, it seems wrong for a typical Clark's Grebe because the flanks are grayer and the bill is duskier with dark on the culmen and the bottom; is this more likely to be a hybrid or a pale Western? - Cayuga Lake, Cayuga County, New York - 8 February 2012 - photo by Tom Johnson
