"In several streets in Darebin, Council has installed raingardens, which are gardens that are specially designed to capture and filter stormwater from adjacent roads and paved areas. By channelling stormwater runoff into a raingarden, the plants and trees planted in them are supplied with water to irrigate them. Below ground level there are different thicknesses of soil layers which filter out pollution in the water before it drains to local creeks."
