Industrial Canal By St Claude Bridge
On the other side of this canal is the Lower 9th Ward. What's separating the canal from the residential area is the levee. The water level is actually higher than the streets, so if the levee were to burst, a lot of water would go into the neighborhood causing a flood. New Orleans is actually built like a bowl. This canal goes into the Mississippi River, which is only about two blocks from where I made this image. That's a lot of water.
