Retro "Slider-Style" Wired TV Remote

    Newer Older

Did anyone else have one of these "wired" remote controls for their television? For some reason, a memory of sitting on the couch with the brown channel slider next to me came into mind today.

What is the "official" name for this? I couldn't find a photograph of a real one anywhere on the whole wide Internetz. Let me know if you do!

    UPDATE: Found One!

I had one of those... basically our first remote. I think they maxed out at about 35 channels. That was the bees knees, man, when the folks would go out and I'd be in charge, channel surfing.

Yup, I had one too... As I recall, the remote control started with numbers and ended with letters. I want say MTV was the letter 'I'. Too funny. Perhaps is was a Michigan (or GR) thing?

My friends think I'm crazy when I talk about this remote... I vividly remember my grams getting on to me about running the slider back and forth; changing the channels stupid fast. We had a couple of these "the letter and number ones"... so weird this part of technology is literally extinct - even on the web!!

I used to have one back in the mid 80's!

We had one in the early 80's, it went from channel 2 to 37. Looked very similar to your illustration.

OMG! I had the EXACT same one. -Totally had used one of these. Drove my parents nuts when I kept sliding it back and forth! I was just saying that the fact that I've used THIS device was going to make me feel REALLY old next to my grandchildren one day! LOL
