Hooded Oriole

Dolores Park, San Francisco, CA. Note the building materials in his mouth. Another birder and I were wondering why he is not called a black-masked oriole?

Hey Bob, thanks for showing me this guy! What a beauty. And thanks for going on the long drive with me on a stormy Saturday :).

That's an interesting question. Perhaps because of its range overlap with Bullock's Oriole, which could also be perceived as having a black mask, but not an orange hood, as the Hooded seems to have.

Thanks for sharing the photos. =)
