Doctor Who Infographic

    Now available as a print!

Hey, it's another infographic. Here's everything you've ever wanted to know about the Doctor, but were afraid to ask.

Once I'd finished drawing cartoon renditions of all eleven Doctors, I was trying to think of something else I could do with them. Suddenly the idea of an infographic sprung to mind. Armed with my moderate knowledge of Who-lore and trivia, I started typing up relevant factoids and arranging the Doctors on the page. Obviously you'll have to view the original size to read most of it.

I think this is the first time in my life I've ever drawn the TARDIS. It was surprisingly hard! It seems like it would be simple; after all it's just a blue box with some windows, but it was actually quite complicated, what with all of those little details and recessed panels and whatnot (and yes, it's been pointed out that I have the wrong number of window panes. I've fixed that on the revised version).

There's another Doctor Who infographic over here.

This piece took quite a while to finish. I worked on it a little at a time over several days. There was a lot of moving around of elements and much text editing to get everything to fit in an efficient manner. Hopefully there aren't too many glaring errors in the information.

I've had the grid system drilled into my head since design school, and normally I'm a devoted disciple of it. This time I said nuts to grids and just sort of let the design happen organically. I kind of liked it. I may start ditching the grid more often.

Laid out entirely in InDesign. All the Doctors were drawn in InDesign as well.

UPDATE: My little infographic just passed 150,000 views!!! Thank Kew, Internet!!!

UPDATE: Be sure and check out the REVISED AND UPDATED VERSION. All the mistakes that appear here have been corrected.

There's another infographic featuring the Doctor's enemies here.

I really dig the illustrations. All the Doctor's personalities are spot on. A second with the Doctor's enemies and a third with companions would be a great followup.

"Last of the Time Lords" is still under debate and can be forgiven (River Song may be one), but since the Master is gone and the other Time Lords have been removed from Time, he would be the last "known" one. I would stress that technically neither The Daleks or Gallfrey has been destroyed, but is still imprisoned in the Time Lock. Since they have been removed from the entire time-stream, I guess that could be interpreted as destroyed.

I would definitely buy a print if you sold them. Great work!

Thanks! I don't know about the companions though... how many have there been now? 30? 40? I'd have to do 5 different posters!

      Thanks, guys!

      Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks! Some of the Doctors were easier to draw than others.

      Thanks, man!

Wow! Where was that TARDIS? Was the show filming there or was that a real police box, or a fan made thing? Weird!

Thanks, Sci-FiGuy. Glad you enjoyed it. I appreciate your comments and your defense of my statement. I hope this doesn't sound arrogant but I think some people just don't understand that I didn't have room to go into minute and convoluted plot synopsis such as the time locked Time Lords. Think of this as an introduction to the Doctor, knowing that there's way more to learn under the surface. ;^)

I finally found time to revise my Infographic, using some of the corrections and suggestions made by readers and fans:

This is the final version. Until I change it again.

For those of you who've asked, I am planning to sell it as a poster. Have patience.

      Yay! (poster sales)

I forgot to defend your use of quotes around "granddaughter" but see you removed them. ;-) Susan was always referred to as his granddaughter but it was never clearly explained if she really was or if that was more a title of endearment and convenience. The 10th Doctor did allude to being a parent before his genetic daughter was created, but otherwise there is no evidence the Doctor ever had offspring. Somebody needs to do a prequel!

I would say with the companions, you could highlight the most popular or longest running for each doctor. The tricky part is for spanning companions like Sara Jane Smith...does she go with Doctor #3 or Doctor #4...although Rose is even trickier since she is the only one with #9 but was kind of more important to #10, Ooooo...brain-freeze! Ok, just do villains. ;-D

That was my understanding about the whole "Susan = granddaughter" thing. Was she or wasn't she? We still don't know for sure. It's become one of those early inconsistencies of the series that the creators would just as soon ignore.

Fantastic job on this - one small quibble: the 5th Doctor was not the first to wear glasses. The 1st Doctor used glasses, though I'm not sure how often. Here is a shot of him in his spectacles:

Since you asked for corrections, the second Doctor's instrument was a recorder, not a flute. Otherwise, it looks great!!

Please check out the revised version, guys. Most of these mistakes have been corrected there.

Today I watched my 1st episode "The Bells of Saint John" and not knowing anything about the character I made a couple of 'clicks' and found this backstory. Thank you bob canada for your cartoon/readers digest on Doctor Who.
