Himeji Castle at Night (Himeji, Japan)

An incredible structure and Japan's most popular castle, Himeji Castle dates back to 1580 and managed to survive two bombings in World War II. It has remained almost entirely intact and restoration work took place in the 1950s. Starting this year, further restoration will begin on the main keep and will be ongoing for a couple of years. I was actually very lucky in the timing of my visit as I was there only a matter of days before cranes and scaffolding began to spoil the view!
