The many obstacles to building an effective rule of law system in Southeast Europe and other transformation economies are deeply and historically rooted. Countries such as Georgia have demonstrated the region’s potential for future growth by pushing through extensive police and institutional reforms. But Southeast Europe still has a long way to go.

The 8th BMW Foundation Global Table in Jahorina near Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, held in partnership with the European Fund for the Balkans, seeks to examine methods for building rule of law in Southeast Europe - to enhance accountability, promote institutional efficiency, and boost investment in the region. It facilitates a frank dialogue to develop frameworks for collaboration between local, national, regional, and international actors and explores possibilities for improving governance and reinforcing civic trust.
