Still At It
Our little wrens are still hard at work on their nest. We noticed today though that most of what they are bringing is soft material - lichen, moss, leaf skeletons. Before, it was mostly twigs. So we think that the egg laying might happen soon!
They work on the nest mainly in the morning, and both seem to have an equal part in its creation. I know this not because I can tell them apart, but because they are both, as you can see, often in the sill at once.
The male though - he regularly sits on the roof's edge and declares (LOUDLY!) that this is his property, and his alone.
We think it's ours, the owls think it's theirs, the dog defends it mightily against the UPS man and now the wrens have laid claim. That's a whole lotta landholders for a 1/4 acre plot.
