Former Crosti-boilered BR Standard 9F 2-10-0 92021 heads a train of oil tank wagons past Normanton (55E) MPD and is signalled to take the up slow through the station - 28/10/1967.
Normanton shed had just two months or so left. It was the last shed on BR(NER) to service steam locomotives and closed on either 31/12/1967 or 01/01/1968 depending upon which report you read.
Peter Kellet visited Normanton shed on 28th October 1967 and tells me that on shed were thirteen Black Fives, one LMS 8F, two LMS 4MT 2-6-4T's, two Ivatt 4MT moguls, one Jubilee (45562), a solitary WD 2-8-0, a Standard 9F 92011 & a rebuilt Crosti 92021. Also an assortment of sixteen stored/withdrawn locos.
A Stanlow to Neville Hill tank train appeared double headed with a Black Five as pilot and 9F 92122 as train engine. The pilot was removed and retired to the shed to join those listed above, two Drewry 204hp diesels were working the local yards where a pair of BR/Sulzer type 2s and a couple of English Electric type 3s also were to be seen. The empty return trip from Neville Hill to Stanlow later appeared behind 92021.
