Off-Highway Vehicle Areas

There are thousands of acres to take your OHV adventure in the BLM California Desert. The only issue you will have is which area to adventure to. Dumont Dunes is known for its variance in elevation from 700 feet to 1200 feet. El Mirage is known for its Shadow Mountain peaks that offer moderate to hard riding terrain, a challenge for experienced riders. From cross-country play to advanced technical routes, the Jawbone OHV Area offers over 7,000 acres of open-use public land where you can ride anywhere your skill and machine will take you. Johnson Valley offers a riding

opportunity for every skill level and an area for experienced rock crawlers known world

wide as “Hammers”.

Imperial Sand Dunes is the largest sand dune area in California, totalling 15 miles wide by 40 miles long. The tallest dune is 400 feet tall! Imperial Sand Dunes is a place for everyone. The southern part of the dunes has extensive off highway vehicle (OHV) use, from the beginner to the expert. The north side of the dunes is a designated wilderness area and that is where you can take photos or a hike amongst the biggest dunes. The best time of year to visit the dunes tends to be in the cooler months of late fall and early spring.
