Along with a few appliances, various articles of womens clothing are all that can be found in this crumbling kitchen. The black bra on the chair was one of about 5 strewn about. On the sink drainboard was a pamphlet from a local AIDS awareness organizations warning local "Sistas" how to steer clear of HIV.
One other strange find. Under this chair sat a box of gold Christmas tinsel. About 12 miles of it.
This is the only interior shot that I used the flash on. For two reasons.
First, I shot if from outside the kitchen, through a 2-foot square hole kicked out in the bottom panel of the rear door. Second, I was trying to get the garish look of Tennie Harris, a photographer who chronicled black life in the Hill during the 1940s and 50s.
