my own private oil war
sorry abou the repost here.
but man i can't stand all the bitching about america's "oil war."
no, i don't support the war in iraq on any grounds. and, yes, there's been money wasted in ways that have enriched far too many people and corporations.
but what are you doing to end this so-called oil war?
are you driving less?
did you ditch your jeep or suv for a hybrid or smaller, more fuel-efficient car?
did you cancel that fall foliage photo trip that would have added a hundred miles or so to your odometer?
did you scrub that flickr photo meet with friends in some other part of your state?
do you eat at home more instead of driving to a mexican or some other ethnic restaurant in a suburban mall?
do you ride a bus or train to work more often than in the past?
do you ride a bike to the corner grocery store (or do you still drive to whole foods or trader joe's for groceries that don't leave a big carbon footprint — that is, if you don't count all the cars in the parking lot)?
do you live within walking distance of your job? do you ever think of moving closer to where you work?
do you live beyond the reach of mass transit?
did you make sure that your 401 (k) does not have a single tie to any company that profits from the "oil war"?
do you wish that some smart-ass with no sense or irony would quit spray painting this oil war tag all around town — or at least do it in chalk or some other product that's not petroleum based?
