On the evening of Sunday, 6 May 2012 (5:16:33 PM) the biggest and brightest moon came closer to the earth than at any time in 2012.
Astronomers call this type of close full moon a perigee full moon. Perigee describes the moon’s closest point to Earth for a given month. But last year, when the closest and largest full moon occurred on March 20, 2011, some people used a new term : supermoon. There are 4-6 supermoons every year.
