A small to medium sized tree in warm temperate and subtropical rainforest north from Cambewarra Mountain west of Nowra and also at higher altitudes on the McPherson Range.

Often seen with coppice shoots emerging from the base.

The other subsp. is Sloanea australis subsp. parviflora and it occurs in North Queensland.
