Lip Mach 2000 'Dark Master'

    Newer Older

LIP Mach 2000 'Dark Master'. A modern quartz version of the famous Roger Tallon-designed watch from the 70's. Acquired 2009-11-17 from Squiggly.com

This modern version is powered by a Swiss ETA quartz chronograph. It might not have the charm of the old Valjoux 7734 -- but it is a functional improvement. The new version is more accurate and has better timing features.

The original watch was designed in 1973 by French designer Roger Tallon. He also sketched the fast TGV train. The Mach 2000 still looks futurustic, 36 years after its introduction!

Actually... not rare at all. This is not the 1970's original with Valjoux mechanical movement. It's the current re-release with a Swiss quartz chronograph. A functional improvement over the original, in that it is more accurate.

The difference between the old one and new one is subtle: the subdials in the original are centered in the middle of the dial across the 9-3 axis. The quartz subdials are quite a bit higher on the dial, as you can see.

You can buy this new version at several online retailers. I bought mine at Squiggly.com
