Queering the Museum
4 November 2010 - 27 February 2011
Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery

What happens when we stop thinking the world is straight?

Museums use and group objects to tell stories. Objects which, unless we are told, we assume were made by, made for and represent heterosexual society.

Turning this on its head, artist and curator, Matt Smith, will be casting a queer eye over Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, rearranging objects and producing new work to uncover, draw out - and on occasion wilfully invent - the hidden stories in Museum's collections.

Sometimes serious, sometimes humorous, this exhibition will change how you look at museums and question what you see.

Queering the Museum was a Arts Council funded exhibition, in conjunction with SHOUT Festival and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
