Stave church
More wooden buildings from Norway.
The model is based on Borgund, the stavechurcest of all stave churches :) Built ca 1180 AD, it is mostly in its original state, although parts like the dragons on the roof are replaced by replicas. The building is regularly painted with tar to protect the wood from humidity. This results in the dark, sometimes black colour.
The model is big, black, and shiny, so not a dream object to photograph. Instead of the usual product photo-style lego shot, I ended up with these more artsy fartsy outdoor ones. Better photos of details are coming soon.
I could go on and on about how stave churches are constructed, but a quick search on the internet will probably lead to better explanations.
