Celebrate! Celebrate! Dance to the music!!!
and, that's what they were doing!! Seems whenever a baby Royal Tern gets fed (he is the short guy in the middle) many adults surround him, dance and sing!! It was such an amazing sight to see. Happened every time!! The little one is shown below. He was only 1 month old!!
The colony consisted of 5,000 adult birds with 2,500 successful nests. The recent two tropical storms had not effected this colony of Royal Terns and Laughing Gulls. Sandwich Terns were farther down the beach and also survived. Meanwhile on the West coast of Florida the Caspian Tern colonies were not as fortunate. There were only two colonies. One was obliterated and the other wiped out by 80%. Beryl and Debbie brought in high tides and wiped away many nesting terns as well as other beach nesters. As much as Florida needed the rain it seems to always come with a high price. So, it was sheer pleasure to see this little group of Terns CELEBRATE!! Maybe they knew how fortunate they were to be alive?
