Once There Were Billions
This Collection contains images from the books and of the species featured in the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History exhibit "Once There Were Billions." With a focus on several North American bird species that have gone extinct (including the Passenger Pigeon, Great Auk, Carolina Parakeet, and Heath Hen), the exhibit reveals the fragile connections between species and the environment.

Visit the exhibit in the Evans Gallery on the Ground Floor of the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., from June 24, 2014-October 2015. Explore the virtual exhibit on the Smithsonian Libraries' website at library.si.edu/digital-library/exhibition/once-there-were....
