Homicide Memorial in an alley

NIAGARA FALLS - Two teens were arraigned this morning in connection with the slaying of Isabella "Bella" Sarah Tennant, the 5-year-old whose body was found dumped in a garbage can Monday morning.

John R, Freeman, 16, of Sixth Street pleaded not guilty to second degree murder and was sent back to Niagara County Jail without bail by Niagara Falls City Judge Angelo J. Morinello.

Tyler Best, 18, of Buffalo, who had lived in Freeman's home for the last year, was charged with tampering with evidence, a felony.

Police said Best led them to Isabella's body just after 9 a.m. Monday,

Close to 50 relatives and friends of both the victim and the suspects showed up before Morinello cleared the courtroom, allowing only family members inside.

Extra security and court officers were brought in to patrol the courtroom and the entrance to the Public Safety Building in order to avoid any confrontations, but both sides remained calm but clearly emotional as proceedings began.
