Watchtower on the north battlements of Fort George
Fort George is situated about 12 miles north east of Inverness on a promontory jutting into the Moray Firth. It is truly huge and impressive, perhaps more so since it was never required to fulfil its primary purpose. It was built after the Jacobite defeat at nearby Culloden, but the threat never materialised after that.
