Waxy Monkey Frog - Dec. '04 - American Museum of Natural History, NY

Most frogs like cool, moist places. Waxy monkey frogs (Phyllomedusa sauvagii) like it hot. They seal in moisture by giving themselves a rubdown with a waxy substance secreted through skin glands. Climbing to an exposed perch, they draw in their arms and legs and sleep in the sun. They awaken and hunt at night when the air temperature and the rate of water loss are lower.

Class: Amphibia
Family: Hylidae
Size: 2 to 3 inches
Food: Insects
Range: Chaco Desert of Argentina, Paraguay, and Bolivia
Habitat: Dry scrub forest
Life Cycle: Females lay eggs on vegetation overhanging water. The tadpoles hatch and drop into the water below. Tadpoles metamorphose in 35 to 70 days depending on food and temperature.

~good shot, the greens in this are xlnt, but constructively the blurred object just to the left of center is a wee bit distracting...overall I like the shot. Also, I'd like to pass along a link to a fotag I have befreiended through another photo site, George Dangerfirld, outdoorsy-fotag who does superb work, especially w/ frogs, thought you'd enjoy his work~

That is a very good shot! He sure looks grumpy like Jabba the Hutt... Either that, or he's a quarter a sleep like I feel like right now (I seem to have slow starts in the morning on occasion). I think waxy monkey frogs can grow to be pretty big. This chum here is already at a fairly big size. He looks like he is probably the size of my fist.
