Beatniks (San Francisco, California)

San Francisco's The Beat Museum pays tribute to the literature and counterculture pioneers of the 50s namely Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, and other giants of the Beat Generation. According to Wikipedia, elements central to the Beat culture "included experimentation with drugs and alternative forms of sexuality, an interest in Eastern religion, a rejection of materialism, and the idealizing of exuberant, unexpurgated means of expression and being". In the 1960s, the Beat movement was incorporated into the Hippie counterculture (December, 2010)
