Rice Planters

    Newer Older

Farmers plant rice in the rain-fed rice fields of Mapangpang, Munoz despite the erratic rain pattern and the rising cost of fuel. If the rains won't come, the water pumps will have to do the irrigating. But if gas prices would become too high, then the rice plants will have to be "aborted" or allowed to wither away. The gawat season or lean months have extended for most Filipino rice farmers.

I love this photo, Shubert. I have many attempts to capture rice farmers in NLEx but my camera isn't powerful enough to catch then. Time to learn to use a dslr...

i guess you still have to plant by hand !!!

as i understand it, getting into debt is now part of the process, because you have to rent a power tiller (more efficient than a kalabaw) and buy pataba (fertilizer) !!

to know the value of the role of rice farmers, given this planet populated by rice eating humans, then, imagine this planet without rice and wheat farmers. Verybody would be furting, because everybody eat sweet potato.
